Pre-press

Desk and proofs

The last desk before the machine — proofs, swatches, and the file opened once more for bleed, padding, and colour.

Pre-press is where design becomes a job ticket. Bleed, border buffers, and asset cleanup happen here so the RIP and the operator are not inventing margins.

A typical pass: check outlines, flatten what must be flat, confirm the colour profile for solvent, UV, or laser, then mark the proof. The screen is only half the work.
