Create Editable Text Effect Neon Double Night in Adobe Illustrator

Neon only works when the glow sits behind the letter and the core stays sharp in front. The Double Night build does that with two stacked fills in the Appearance panel, so the text never needs to be outlined and every edit is instant.

The stack

One text object, two fills: the lower fill becomes the outer glow with a heavy blur and a deep night colour, the upper fill stays crisp with the neon core colour. An offset keeps the glow from eating the letterform. Because both live in Appearance, typing a new word rebuilds the whole effect automatically.

Why editable matters

Outlining locks the shape. An Appearance-based effect keeps the text as text — kerning, tracking, and font swaps all stay live. Save it as a Graphic Style and one click applies the same neon to any headline in the file.
